Verdict

SunSon VPN is a paid service, not a free VPN. It has no ongoing free plan: new accounts get a two-hour trial, then it costs ¥39.9 a month. We cover it because the trial lets you try it at no cost, but it is the least documented service here.

The company behind it is unnamed, the domain is about two months old, and its privacy policy describes something different from the service it sells. We would not trust it with sensitive traffic until those gaps are closed.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

  • Possible fit: someone who wants a short, free test of an unlimited plan, and accepts that the operator is unknown.
  • Poor fit: anyone looking for a free VPN to keep using. SingLink and Proton VPN have real free plans.
  • Poor fit: anyone who needs to know who holds their account data.
  • Poor fit: iPhone users, as we found no App Store listing.

The two-hour trial

SunSon’s free trial page says every newly registered user gets two hours at no cost, with the same benefits as the paid plan: unlimited data on up to three devices. You download the app, register, and the trial period shows in your account. An earlier version of this review said the trial was not documented on the website. That was wrong, and we have corrected it.

The trial is the only free access. Older template text in the terms still mentions a 200 MB-a-day free plan, but SunSon’s pricing page does not offer one. We have not used the trial ourselves. We also could not confirm from public pages that the trial is limited to ten nodes, so we no longer state that. The homepage’s “10 Regions” figure is not tied to the trial.

Price and refunds

The pricing page lists one plan: ¥39.9 a month for unlimited data on three devices. The site does not name the currency, and we read the symbol as Chinese yuan. We did not find quarterly or yearly options. The terms still describe five US-dollar plans with different device limits, which suggests the document was not updated for this product.

Refunds conflict, so do not rely on one. The site’s FAQ promises a 30-day no-questions-asked refund on all paid plans. The terms say subscriptions are non-refundable, with a 30-day exception for App Store purchases only, and we found no App Store app. The terms are the safer reading. Payment methods listed by the site include Alipay, WeChat Pay, cards, PayPal and USDT.

Who runs SunSon

We could not establish who owns or operates it. The privacy policy says the company is registered in the British Virgin Islands, and the terms apply BVI law and arbitration. Neither names a legal entity: the terms define the company only as “SunsonVPN”. We found no address, company number or founders, and the about page is an unfinished placeholder.

The dates also do not line up. The changelog says the service launched in August 2023, but sunsonvpn.com was registered on September 7, 2026. The terms carry a “last updated” date of March 1, 2025, about 18 months before the domain existed. An older product under another name is possible, but we could not confirm one.

SunSon also shares material with SingLink. Its terms contain the same plan names and prices as SingLink’s terms: Fast, Plus and Pro at $3.59, $7.59 and $25.59. Its homepage offers support through SingChat, which SingLink lists as its own product. SingLink also sells white-label VPNs, so SunSon could be a sister brand or a paying customer. We do not know which, and we treat that as unresolved.

Why the privacy policy does not fit the product

The policy makes the strongest claims of the four services we cover: no email, no IP addresses, no device IDs, no connection logs, and “no backend servers”. Those claims cannot all be true of the service SunSon sells:

The policy saysThe product requiresOur reading
No email collectedThe trial needs a new registered accountAn account has to be stored somewhere
No device IDsThe pricing page enforces a three-device limitEnforcing a limit needs some way to count devices
No backend serversThe homepage sells access to VPN servers in data centresA paid VPN needs servers and account systems

The policy reads as if it were written for a client app that connects to servers you supply yourself. That leaves no reliable statement of what SunSon actually keeps. Treat the “no logs” claim as unverified, and the comparison to “blockchain-grade immutability” on the homepage as marketing.

Audits

The current site names no audit. We found no independent security or no-logs audit of SunSon.

Security features and protocols

The homepage mentions WireGuard and OpenVPN with AES-256, the policy says AES-256-GCM, and download pages say “SunsonVPN protocol”. The site’s technical pages are unfinished placeholders. We could not determine which protocol the apps actually use.

Server claims

The figures do not agree. The homepage shows 10 regions, 50+ countries and regions, and 120+ countries. Download pages say 100+ servers, and the FAQ mentions “million-level server configurations”. Uptime appears as both 99.9% and 99.5%. We found no server list. The homepage’s claim of 10M+ users is hard to square with a two-month-old domain, and we found nothing to support it.

Platforms and support

The site lists Windows, macOS, Android and Linux, and installers exist for the first three. iOS support is unclear: one FAQ answer says it is supported, but we found no listing in an App Store search or Google Play search. So there are no store ratings or store privacy labels to check. Android and Windows software from outside a store is harder to verify, which matters more when the publisher is unnamed. Support is offered through SingChat, email and Telegram. We have not tested it.

If you want a VPN you can keep using for free, pick SingLink or Proton VPN. If you want a paid unlimited plan, SingLink’s and Proton’s month-to-month prices are higher, but both come with a named operator and store-distributed apps.

What we have not tested

We have not used the trial, and have not measured speed, streaming or leaks. We also have not inspected the installers.

Changes to this review

  • November 5, 2026: Added document-based scores. Rewritten after rechecking all sources. Corrected two errors: the BVI jurisdiction is stated by SunSon, and the two-hour trial is documented on its website. Removed the “10 nodes during the trial” claim because we could not confirm it. Removed “operating since 2023” as a fact and added the domain date. Added the refund conflict.
  • September 23, 2026: First published.
